Biography:
Jeremy
Reid
was born in 1989 in Olney, Maryland. After receiving his very first gaming
console at a young age, he slowly developed a love for the medium. Growing up
on the old classics of the Nintendo 64 era; he desired to understand the hidden
gears and clockwork that converge together to make all of his favorite games
fun. After discovering PC gaming, Jeremy developed an enjoyment in big open
world games and narrative. This furthered his desire to really understand what
goes on behind the scenes in game development. After graduating from High
School in 2008, he decided to make this desire a reality; he chose the medium
as his field of study for higher education.
After obtaining his
Associate’s Degree in Computer Gaming and Simulation in 2011 from Montgomery
College, Jeremy took a short break from the world of game development to focus
on his job as a package handler at the United Parcel Service. During this time
he continued to play games and slowly developed an increased interest in
emergent gameplay and narrative. He thought about what video games can offer
consumers that no other entertainment medium can; how games can express
narrative in a form that would be impossible to reproduce in film and
literature. In this way video games would achieve their own voice and would
emerge from under the shadow of other mediums.
Jeremy Reid is
currently working on his Bachelor’s Degree in the Simulation and Digital Entertainment
Program at the University of Baltimore. He has written several articles on
gaming related topics during his tenure as a student in the program and has
completed a number of gaming related projects as well. As he continues to study
and develop in his field, he will burrow himself deep within the
earth of game development and record his findings.
